Surely I Spoke Of Things I Did Not Understand

Topic: “Surely I Spoke Of Things I Did Not Understand”!
Text: Job 42: 1- 3, 6

1 Then Job replied to the Lord: 2 “I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. 3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. 6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.” Amen

There comes the time, at least once in our lives when we get totally disappointed with God. Sometimes we even upgrade the disappointment to ANGER; threatening to “abandon’ Him (God) for our own path if He does not “step up His game” regarding our circumstance. In such trying times, God appears to us as unfair for allowing us go through such trials while we become the innocent victims whose God has been unfair to them.

This situation is not so new at all. Once a just man, Job lived in the land of Uz. He was wealthy and famous till God permitted a trial that stripped him off everything; sparing only his sour-striken life and marriage. At a point, he had had enough and started justifying his innocence to his friends. He even questioned God on some occassions; in the same way we do today when we feel God has been too silent in our situation.

Interestingly, by the time God started responding to his claims and questions, Job realised that he had absolutely no grounds to be disappointed in the Almighty. Firstly, because He is sovereign and does only that which pleases Him. Secondly, because we are not innocent or righteous by our might to earn us the right to challenge Him, we are simply sustained by His grace and mercy. Thirdly because He always intervenes in our trials and brings us out unharmed.

Jehovah’s questions to Job confirmed so much of His sovereignty and power that all Job could say afterwards was, “I know that You can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”

Beloved are you in that place where you feel God has not been fair to you? Are you questioning the nature, actions and abilities of God because you feel abandoned? Well before you heed the negative advice of friends to curse God and die, remember that He can do all things, no plan of His can ever be thwarted. He promises to never leave nor forsake you.

Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Repent of each day you accused God of incompetence and negligence. Ask Him to take control of your every situation because He can all things do. Also hold on to His word knowing that none of His good plans for your life can ever be thwarted by evil. The storm is to make you stronger and not break you. You are blessed to be alive and found in HIM, all other things shall work for your good; you will see!
