God Is Not Ashamed To Be Their God

Topic: God Is Not Ashamed To Be Their God
Text: Hebrews 11: 16

Instead, they were longing for a better country–a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. Amen
Doing what pleases our earthly parents makes them very proud of us. Some of us have gained the titles “mummy’s boy/girl” or “daddy’s boy/girl” because we have become their favourites by doing what pleases them. On the other hand, some parents cannot even stand being associated with their own kids because they are stubborn and defiant in all things. In the same vain, there are a category of people whom our Lord is not ashamed to be called their God. This is because they choose to please Him in all that they do.
Reading the whole of Hebrews chapter 11 (popularly referred to as the Hall of Faith by most Christians), we are presented with several individuals who served their God and nations in diverse ways. The Bible recounts that “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are not looking for a country of their own. Instead, they were longing for a better country–a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” (Heb 11:13,14 & 16)

Though these believers of old had different professions, callings, strengths and weaknesses, they had one thing in common; “the better country mindset”. They considered themselves as aliens and strangers in this world and were determined to please our God, simply because they had another world in view: a better country — a heavenly one.
People with this kind of mindset always seek out ways to bring glory to God by advancing the gospel. They do not get overridden with the cares of this world and forfeit their God-given mandates. They do not fight tooth-and-nail to keep treasures on this earth by foul means. They are always conscious of the fact that they will give account of their lives one day. And God is never ashamed to be called their God! Instead, He is preparing a better country for their rest after their journey  on earth is over.

Beloved, do your mindset and actions bring shame to the name of the Lord God, or do they make Him proud of you? Meditate on this word and make a decision to please God with your life. You know it is important that you make the list of those who will be spending eternity with our Lord in heaven. It begins with everything we do with the Word of God whiles on earth. Choose Jesus and His righteousness!
