Don’t Be Afraid; Just Believe!

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Don’t Be Afraid; Just Believe!
Text: Luke 8: 49-50

49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” Amen!

Jairus’ only daughter was dying. He would do anything to save her life. He took the best decision and ran to Jesus for help. Jesus immediately agrees to go with him but the crowd was so heavy and “the woman with the issue of blood” also intercepted and delayed them a while.

In the process, a messenger from Jairus’ house brought the unfortunate report that his daughter was now dead.

This messenger made a mistake however, when he decided to counsel Jairus about the situation. He said; “don’t bother the teacher anymore”. Just when Jesus heard those faithless words, He turned to Jairus saying; “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed”.

Sometimes like Jairus, we run to Jesus with life threatening issues and we feel the peace of God in our hearts that all is well. But subsequent reports and unfolding events mostly prove to be the direct opposite of the assurance we felt when the Master intervened. The worse is happening instead of the best you prayed for.

When the faithless advice and say “don’t bother the teacher anymore”, always remember Jesus is still with you because he wants to fix the problem. “DON’T BE AFRAID, JUST BELIEVE!

It is true that in the face of adversity those words sound like the most difficult thing to do, yet that is the only language that activates prayer to produce results…. DON’T BE AFRAID, JUST BELIEVE!

Keep those words in your heart then, encourage yourself with them through all the changing scenes of life. Those words activated- moves God into action. No matter the storm: Don’t be afraid, just believe!

Begin to pray with the hymn “My faith has found a resting place…. I need no other argument”. Cast all your cares upon the Lord, He cares for you. He will resurrect every dead situation in your life before you know it. Therefore don’t be afraid, just believe!
