Text: Daniel 6: 3

Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm. Amen!

Bible tells us more than once that Daniel was a man who had an excellent spirit. This was evident in the way Daniel handled himself, the way he treated other people, and most of all, the manner in which he served his God.

Some highlights of his life that we can emulate:

i. Determined to remain Loyal to God: As a young man in a foreign land Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the king’s delicacy. (Dan 1: 8)

ii. Good Student: He and his Hebrew friends studied so hard that at the end of the day, they were found much better than the rest. (Dan 1: 17-20)

iii. Prayerful: Daniel was accustomed to praying 3 times daily. Not even a decree by the king could stop him from praying to God. (Dan 6: 10)

iv. Daniel sought God in every matter. He never did anything on his own. In every matter he asked God for understanding and direction. (Dan 2: 17-18)

v. Honest & Hard work: Daniel served so well in any capacity that was assigned to him. He was so honest that the only way you could implicate him was in matters relating to his uncompromising devotion to his God. (Dan 6: 4-5)

vi. He maintained fellowship: Although serving in a foreign land, Daniel would summon his friends from time to time so that they prayed in matters concerning their profession and kingdom. (Dan 2: 17-18)

Meditate further on all the above and ask God for the wisdom to apply these values in your life too. We must excel and be distinguished in all we do. Desire to operate with an excellent spirit in all you do in the name of Jesus; the Holy Spirit will remain His source and inspiration for as long as you acknowledge Him.
