Very Significant Directions

Topic: Very Significant Directions
Text: Matthew 2:13

After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up! Flee to Egypt with the child and his mother,” the angel said. “Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” Amen.

When people embark on any journey to a place which is unfamiliar to them, they usually seek out directions. These directions could be from a map or anyone else who may be familiar with the destination. It is worth noting that, whether the journey would be fruitful or not depends on whether or not the directions given were correct. Wrong directions could mean dire consequences for the sojourner.

The importance of receiving and hearkening to divine directions is underlined in today’s passage. When it was time for the wise men who had sought and found the baby Jesus to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod. This was because the omniscient God had already seen what Herod was intending to do.

After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up! Flee to Egypt with the Child and His mother,” the angel said. “Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.”

Beloved, believe it or not, life has many grey areas. None of us can tell what will happen in the next five minutes. Neither can we tell the nature and number of traps set for us by the evil one as we begin each new day. Worse still, none of us has experienced even a day in the fast-approaching new year. No one can tell whether their plans for the ensuing year will work out or not.

Interestingly, there’s One who knows the very end from the beginning. He’s still in the business of safeguarding the lives of His sons and daughters by giving them significant directions which will guarantee divine escapes. Begin to pray. Surrender all your plans to the Almighty God and ask Him to direct you concerning the new year. How can you fail when the Creator of the entire universe is your way, guide and destination? You wilp never miss your providential way in Jesus mighty name.
