Left Everything for Nothing? (Mark 10: 28-30) June 23,2013

Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!” “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. Amen

Man is mostly motivated by reward. Following Jesus meant total self denial for Peter and his friends. He one day boldly asked the master “what’s in all this for us?”

Jesus explained that the rewards are into three folds:

i. We will receive 100 fold more of what we might appear to have lost for His sake in this present age.

ii. Trials and persecution may come with our sacrifice but they are blessings in disguise, if and only if we can appreciate them so.

iii. We will have more blessings in the world to come (eternity) as well. What an assurance!

So cheer up my dear, our God is not unjust to forget your labour of Love. There is actually all to gain and none to lose in Christ. Every good seed you have sown for the sake of the gospel will never pass unrewarded.

Be encouraged this morning, renew your mind, don’t give up on the faith, don’t grow weary in doing good too. Rather, pray for grace to remain steadfast and focused in Him, trusting His Word for you will never be in vain.

Please rise up let’s go to church.
