Today’s Devotion
Topic: The Power Of Names! (Self Assessment)

Precious One, we are blessed with another beautiful saturday and we want to delibrate on the topic for the day.

Let us read and meditate on the passage below. Please do not hestitate to share the revelation you receive from the Holy Spirit with us. Let’s Do This!

First Text: Genesis 29: 31- 35

31 When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, He enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless. 32 Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, “It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”

33 She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Because the Lord heard that I am not loved, He gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon. 34 Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.

35 She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” So she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children. Amen

SECOND TEXT: Luke 1: 31 -33

31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call Him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, 33 and He will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; His kingdom will never end.” Amen

THIRD TEXT: Judges 13: 17- 18

17 Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the Lord, “What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true?” 18 He replied, “Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding.” Amen

Questions:

  1. From the 1st passage, Leah named her children after her circumstance. What can be some of the implications for a christian who does that?
  2. From the Luke account, we realise the name Jesus was suggested by the angel of God. And the angel linked the name with the purpose of Christ on earth. Do you think parents should wait on the Lord for divine names that will be linked with the divine destinies of their children before naming? If so why?
  3. Finally, Manoah asked an angel for His Name, and the angel its beyond understanding. Can names be that powerful?
  4. What have you learnt from all the above?
