The Lord’s Prayer (Part 3)

Today’s Devotion
Topic: The Lord’s Prayer (Part 3)
Text: Matthew 6: 11

Give us this day our daily bread. Amen

There is something very incredible about the model prayer our Lord Jesus Christ taught us. The petition centers only on things of spiritual significance and not the material. There was no room for give me this, or that and that. The only “GIVE ME” we see concerns “OUR DAILY BREAD”.

Bread in biblical language is a little different from the bread we buy from the bakers for our tea. It represents food in general or anything that sustains life and gives satisfaction. Our Lord Jesus called Himself the bread of Life to demonstrate His role as the “sustainer” of life and the truest satisfaction we need.

HERE ARE A FEW HIGHLIGHTS TO NOTE ABOUT THE TEXT FOR THE DAY:

  1. If there is a daily portion of this bread, it means God already knows we need it and has already made provision for it, yet Jesus says we should ask for it. The ASKING allows us to demonstrate our faith in the ability of the Lord to provide and also offers the platform to be grateful (and not take the provisions of God for granted).

So beloved, ask for those provisions that are relevant to sustaining your life everyday; food for the body and spirit, good health, shelter, peace of mind, etc.

  1. The Lord Jesus taught us to ask the Father today, for our daily bread. This means there is a portion of this BREAD allocated for today and we must concentrate on what today’s portion ought to be. This is contrary to what we normally petition in prayer, right? Most often we want all of tomorrow’s blessings today. So when it is not manifesting, we become anxious.
  2. Our prayers must never be selfish. As you pray for today’s portion of the daily bread, pray for others in need too. He said give “US”, not give “ME”. Our petition will never be complete unless we intercede for others too.

Next time you pray, focus your attention and petition on the things that sustain life. Don’t worry so much about what tomorrow has in store for you – there is a portion allocated each day for you to last a life time. Intercede for others too and THE BREAD OF LIFE WILL SATISFY YOUR MOUTH WITH GOOD THINGS.

Begin to pray now for the sick, needy, homeless and destitute. Pray about your needs as well. RECEIVE YOUR PORTION FOR TODAY NOW! Watch and be blessed: https://youtu.be/KPO7vQ2Yq70
