Say Nothing, Only PRAY!

Topic: Say Nothing, Only PRAY!
Text: Job 2: 13

So they sat down with him upon the ground for seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word unto him, for they saw that his grief was very great. Amen.

Sometimes a friend, sibling, or neighbour may be in great pain or grief, yet the cause of this pain cannot be explained. It becomes more difficult if this sibling, friend or neighbour is a devout Christian. The question then is: what do I say to encourage this one even in the midst of his storm?

Job was surrounded by his 3 friends who had left everything they had to comfort him. They arrived in haste and could not believe what they were seeing. They did not have words to comfort Job. For seven days and nights, they said nothing.

Maybe they kept asking themselves the same questions we like to ask when things overwhelm us:
How could God allow this to happen to Job of all people? How can he lose everything he has just like that? Where is the God in whom he trust?
Sometimes we go as far as passing judgement on God.

In those moments when we just are not able to find the right words to say to that ailing brother, friend or neighbour, we have a duty to commit such persons to God in prayer. Instead of lamenting on his/her behalf, we can petition God to strengthen them and restore their lost.

Words do not always bring the expected comfort. The right words said at the wrong time may plunge the person into deeper sorrow instead of comforting. It is the Lord that comforts.

In all, it is rather more prudent to keep the person in our prayer and speak as directed by the spirit than to say a lot and not pray. 2 Corinthians 1:3- 4, Blessed be God, even the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of mercies and the God of all comfort, Who comforts us in all our tribulations….

Let us all pray for grace to support each other; not just with our words of encouragement but with fervent prayers too. Always remember that a Word in season will heal faster when backed by prayer! Click: https://youtu.be/85tvVybU0cY
