Topic: Produce Fruit In Keeping With Repentance!
Text: Luke 3: 7- 8a

7 John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. Amen

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar—when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, the word of God came to John, son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

When he saw people trooping in from all walks of life to be baptized, he knew most had come only in an attempt to escape the wrath of God that the preacher said is to come. And not necessarily that they had truly repented from their sins with a decision to live for righteousness the rest of their lives.

So “John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” (Luke 3: 7- 9).

Beloved, you would agree that the end of every year brings some sober moments in our lives? For fear of the unknown, many troop to churches and prayer grounds, asking for forgiveness and making vows to serve the Lord better in the coming year. That is not bad at all but John is saying to us this day that, all that is still not enough. He explains that true repentance must automatically produce the fruit of righteousness or that repentance is questionable.

Meditate on this and begin to pray. All the forgiveness and mercy you seek from God concerning the mistakes of this outgoing year, must come from a repented heart, otherwise the purpose is defeated. After that, ask for strength to remain in Christ and produce fruit in keeping with that repentance.

Remember, God is not mocked. He sees beyond the lip service we provide. Therefore the ax is already at the root of trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into fire. Why must this be your fate when salvation is free and the Holy Spirit, ever ready to help you bear His fruit? Choose righteosness and remain blessed throughout 2016 and beyond.
