Topic: Never Satisfied
Text: Haggai 1: 6
“You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!” Amen
God spoke to the people of Israel during the reign of King Darius in 521BC through Haggai about rebuilding His temple. However, the people responded and said, “The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house”.
However, in 539BC (Eighteen years earlier), according to Ezra 1:1, and Ezra 6:3, God had moved the heart of Emperor Cyrus, king of Persia, to order the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem, but the inhabitants of the land would rather wish to procrastinate.
Question is: what happens when we don’t do what God is asking us to do? Verse 6 of the book of Haggai explains it all. Our lives don’t yield the desired results. We may plant much but harvest rather little. Sometimes our wages disappear like we had holes in our pockets. Sounds like a familiar experience?
Beloved, don’t keep giving excuses each time the Lord reminds you to offer your life (His temple) as a living sacrifice. He seeks to rebuild your life day by day until He can make His full habitation in you and use you for His glory.
Let us therefore resolve to obey the Word of the Lord at all times even when we think it is not “convenient”. Consider the following carefully:
Do not wait till forever to receive Jesus in your heart. Don’t wait another year to pursue that academic/career aspiration. Don’t wait till later to forgive the brother/sister that offended you yesterday. Do not wait today to love that orphan or destitute child in your neighbourhood tomorrow.
All you must do to please the Lord must be done today so you can receive the fullness of the Lord in your life. Begin to pray now, ask for an obedient heart. The great God whom you honor with your obedience today will always prove to you that He is far more faithful. Take that step of faith now!
