Don’t Just Serve!

Topic: Don’t Just Serve!
Text: Luke 10:40- 42

40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her to help me”.(41) And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 “But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her”. Amen.

This is a story of a woman named Martha who welcomed Jesus into her house, as she saw Jesus enter their village. She had a sister called Mary, who immediately sat at Jesus’ feet, just to hear his word. But as courtesy demands, Martha was busy trying to prepare something for her visitor, Jesus.

Ask yourself this: of what benefit shall it be if you were hosting Jesus in your house and spent the whole time at the kitchen trying to keep a front and impress and as such do not make time to relate him? As others benefit from His presence as they sit under His feet, you get nothing but applause for your hospitality skills. Think about it.

These days we have Pastors and church workers loaded with tasks and responsibilities for the Lord, in the end they have no time for prayer, bible study and intimacy with the Lord.

The presence of God becomes very tangible in His service but the usher will still miss it because at that same time she is busily sweeping the church compound. Her reason? The children are littering the place.
Instrumentalists are mostly chatting outside till a song is raised then they rush to post to play and then step out again.

Some of us spent all Sunday mornings preparing for lunch that we are always late for service. We arrive to church after praise and worship and try to reply the many WhatsApp messages we couldn’t attend to in e morning during the sermon.

You too, you give all the excuses why you cannot be at church all the time. After all God should know that you serve Him with your tithes and offerings. That is good, but nothing compares with sharing intimacy with Him. Make His feet your dwelling place and He will usher you into His glorious presence where your life will never be the same again.
