BACKGROUND: David needed to conquer cities around him to establish himself as a mighty king and also to expand the kingdom he had just inherited from the death of Saul. He desired Jerusalem as his capital city but needed to defeat the Jebusites (who were the original dwellers).

Text: 2 Samuel 5: 6-7, 9- 10

The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, “You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off.” They thought, “David cannot get in here.” 7 Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David. 9 David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces inward. 10 And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him. Amen

*Questions:*
i. What can you say about the threats the Jebusites posed on David? Can you relate to it- where you really needed to get something and were told by the devil you will not succeed?

ii. Jerusalem is a very holy land till date. Could it be that David foresaw the Spiritual Significance of the Land that’s why He refused to retreat? If so, what should be our own attitudes towards the dreams / aspirations that God through His Word and Spirit encourages us to pursue?

iii. David conquered Jerusalem and became more and more powerful because God was with him. What lessons can you learn from this and how do they apply in your life?
