Don’t Look Down On Anyone!

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Don’t Look Down On Anyone!
Text: 2 Kings 5: 10

10 Elisha sent a messenger to say to him (Naaman), “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.” Amen

Many of the breakthroughs in life have come from very unlikely events and people. Today’s devotion focuses attention on a common misleading human trait, ‘looking down on people.’

Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.

One day, a servant girl serving his wife suggested to his wife, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” (2 Kings 5: 3). Naaman heeded the advice and with the support of his king, set out to Israel to see Prophet Elisha.

On reaching the door post of the Prophet, he got disappointed when the servant of the Man of God was the one to recieve him, rather than the much talked about prophet. He was asked to dip 7 times into the Jordan River but he felt insulted though he never disregarded the servant that was sent to meet him.

In his disappointment, his own servants encouraged him to do just as the prophet has directed. He listened and dipped 7 times into the Jordan and was instantly healed. That was the breakthrough.

There must have been something special about Naaman that made it easy for his maids/ servants to approach him with suggestions. Had he not listened to them, he would have missed his healing.

Many people have lost wonderful opportunities because they felt too big to take suggestions from people they deemed insignificant. They look down on everyone who to them, falls below their expectations, of those worthy of their respect.

However, always remember, God can keep some things hidden from the wise and learned, and reveal them to little children (Luke 10: 21b). Never look down on anyone unless you are admiring their shoes.

“Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.”(Romans 14: 10). Begin to pray now! Ask for grace to love and respect all men no matter the differences we see.

“But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.” (Matthew 5: 22). Therefore, “we who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.”(Romans 15: 1). God will help us all, in Jesus mighty name.
