Christian Values & Practices! (Part 7)

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Christian Values & Practices! (Part 7)

Self Assessment (237)

Background: Last week we learnt how to, by all means, put off the old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; so as to be made new in the attitude of our minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Today we want to understand how to practically be made new in the attitude of our minds so that we can project the new self
created to be like God in true righteousness.

Kindly call the family together. It is time to study the Word.

Text: Ephesians 4: 25-27
25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. 28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. Amen!

Questions
1. When it comes to changing the attitude of the mind, or changing an attitude in general, most of us act like once we pray fervently about them God will supernaturally bring the change we desire. Does verse 25- 27 however, suggest that we have a part to play in putting of the old self? If so, how please?

2. Kindly read verse 25 again. What will you say is the correlation between speaking truthfully with each other and we are members of one body?

3. “In your anger do not sin.” Kindly explain this. And also help us know how to practically ensure the sun does not go down while you are still angry.

4. What does it mean to give the devil a foothold. Why is that very dangerous?

5. Kindly read verse 27 again:

a. Why do you think Paul does not only admonish the thief to stop stealing, but also goes on to encourage that they work so as to have something to share with others?

b. How does this prove that a desire to put away an old behavior is not complete unless we have reason in Christ to replace it with what is good for the edification of others?

6. What have you learnt from today’s discussion?

Kindly share your answers with us through this same social media platform (WhatsApp/Facebook). We also learn a lot from what you share.
