Topic: Cast Me Not Away!
Text: Psalm 51:11
Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Amen
The Holy Spirit is the sanctifying Spirit of God by whom alone we can have acquaintance and fellowship. When an individual repents of his/her sins, it is the indwelling of the Spirit of God that constantly convicts that individual of any more intended sins.
The Holy Spirit, like the name connotes, is Holy and never dwells in a sinful body. The Holy Spirit; just as He can dwell, can also depart. Once upon a time, king Saul was anointed to rule over Israel. One day He was commanded to totally destroy the Amalekites for the evil they did the Israelites on their way from Egypt to Canaan. They were command to bring no plunder back with them from this mission.
Sadly, Saul went contrary and when he was asked by Samuel, the prophet of God, he further lied. Thus, the Bible accounts of how the Spirit of God left him while an evil spirit took over. (1 Samuel 15)
How did Saul lose the anointing that was bestowed on him? He chose to obey and please men than the commands of God. 1 Samuel 15:24 records that then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned. I violated the Lord’s command and your instructions. I was afraid of the men and so I gave in to them.”
In a quest to be liked and spoken well of, there is a high temptation to lower the standards of God and yield to sin. When Saul lost the anointing, he desired for it so much, but never truly repented for the privilege of the indwelling of the Holy Ghost.
David was anointed too. He also disobeyed the Lord, but this time, it was not to please man per say. It was to please himself and satisfy his lust. In the process of covering up his sins, he committed murder too.
But when the word of God from Nathan convicted him; just as the word of God from Samuel convicted Saul; He (David), did not lie about his sin. He went to God, pleading for a new heart. He said, “Cast me not away from your presence and take not your Holy Spirit from me”.
Beloved, kindly meditate on this word and begin to pray that you see the full importance of the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom not to drive Him away through sin. Pray with the spiritual song “Holy Spirit! Move me now, make my life whole again. Spirit move over me!” (VINESONG)
For it is He (the Holy Spirit), who begins with us on our Christian journey as Children of God; helping us each step along the way and preparing us like a bride to meet the Lord at His second coming. It is very important that He dwells in you, and not the sin that gradually tears you away from God.
Yield to the Holy Spirit now! Do not be like Saul who chose the indwelling of sin and demons. His end was miserable.
