Your Life Is Not Even Yours!

Text: Jeremiah 10: 23

I know, O Lord, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps. Amen

Man is created by God and given a free will to make choices of however his life should be. But the very life he lives is not his own, but borrowed. That is why it is not prudent for him to direct his own steps, but rather allow the One who is the source of life, and whose life it is he borrows, to lead him.

Those who DO NOT ACCEPT or understand the truth above, live to please themselves, and those they decide their actions must please. All their choices are aimed at attaining much more pleasure now than they did previously; paying no attention to the One who is the fountain of life, nor caring about His purpose for gifting them that life.

This happened in a parable Jesus preached one day. He said, “when the ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest and he thought to himself, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'” (Luke 12: 13- 20).

Jesus warned that this is how it will be with whoever stores up things for himself but IS NOT RICH TOWARDS GOD.

On the other hand, those who understand this simple truth; that a man’s life is not his own, completely surrender to God’s supreme leadership. They accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ by offering their lives as living sacrifices that are holy and acceptable to God. They allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in their bodies as His temple and to lead them into all truth.

From His truth, they come to discover that life becomes a blessing if we put God in control. Practically, they learn from His Word what to do in every situation so they never miss their providential way.

For salvation, they trust in the truth that says, “Therefore, He (Jesus) is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, BECAUSE HE ALWAYS LIVES TO INTERCEDE FOR THEM” (Hebrews 7: 25). For guidance in perplexity, they hold on to the Word that says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3: 6). For every trying situation, they choose to believe God when He says, “My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Corinthians 12: 9).

When weary, they remember the invitation that says, “Come unto Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11: 28). When the load of life seems heavy, they will remind you to “Cast all your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” (Psalms 55: 22)

So much is the help, assistance and direction we get from God. That is, those of us who regard Him as Lord over our lives. He makes us more than conquerors. Blessed here on earth, and blessed in the life to come.

Meditate on this and begin to pray. Surrender your life to Christ and submit to the leadings of the Holy Ghost from hence. Remember that man’s life is not his own. One day we will all give account to God of what we did with our lives.

To the living, life is borrowed from our Maker. To our Maker, life is a gift that man must account for. Therefore, let us acknowledge God in all that we do, so that He may bless us more. First, with ETERNAL LIFE, and then with all other things that pertain to righteousness (ABUNDANT LIFE).
