When The Lord Plants You

Topic: When The Lord Plants You
Text: Amos 9:15

I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them,” says the LORD your God. Amen.

A farmer prepares the land and ploughs it. Then he fertilizes it and sows, with the hope that each seed planted will shoot up and grow to bear fruits. He’s however aware that there are several factors that can obstruct the easy growth of his plants. One of which being the activities of man and pests, and so he’s always on the lookout.

Actually, those two can UPROOT his plants, denying them of enough soil, water and the nutrients for plant growth, till they die.
To prevent this, the farmer hedges around his farm and also watches over it. He is constantly destroying the activities of pests and rodents too, so that his plants can grow best and well.

In life, all of us (humans) also get planted, you know. We are being planted if we find ourselves anywhere that allows us to gain roots and grow, till we can bear fruits and be a blessing to others around us. We can, by this definition, say that a person can be planted in marriage, academia, love, a career or ministry.

Now, just as it happens in the life of a plant, there are factors, pests and ‘human activities’ that always seek to interfere with our growing process and UPROOT us entirely wherever life has planted us. The idea is to cause us to start afresh and from ‘square one’. This cycle can go on until we are frustrated and give up the search for new grounds for replanting.

Human activities that are able to uproot individuals wherever they could grow and influence positively include; hatred, backbiting, backstabbing, deceit, wickedness and basically anything else we can do to destroy another.

The good news however, as we see in today’s passage, is that the Lord tells His people that He will plant them in their own land, NEVER AGAIN TO BE UPROOTED FROM THE LAND HE HAS GIVEN THEM.

Now this indeed, is a wonderful assurance! Imagine God planting you in the marriage, career or school, that it’s His will for your life and then goes on to tell you that He’s making sure you are never UPROOTED from where He plants you. So that you can be established to grow, expand and be a blessing. How is this not refreshing?

Begin to pray therefore and commit wherever you find yourself and whatever genuine thing you are doing into the hands of God. Ask Him to plant and establish you there according to His Word. Then plead He hedges around you so none can uproot and destroy the very growth He (God) has graciously allowed you to attain in Him.

As the Lord plants and refuses that you be UPROOTED again, you too do your best to be rooted deeply in His Word so your growth is not impeded. For those who delight in the law of the Lord and on this law, meditate day and night, are like trees planted by the streams of water which yield their fruits in season. Their leaves do not wither and whatever they do prospers.

Also, always remember that “the righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green” (Ps 92: 12- 14).
