Throw Off Every Weight!

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Throw Off Every Weight!
Text: Hebrews 12: 1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Amen!

In any racing competition, there are always rules and disciplines that govern it. It is the same with our Christian race. Except that, with the latter, there’s more. Trials and temptations are also projected on every side to obstruct the ‘racers’ and either slow them down or hinder the continuation of the race, to the end.

For this reason, the bible is admonishing us this day to run the Christian race with patience, laying aside every thing that hinders and easily weighs us down.

You see, the word of God mentions in Hebrews 11, men and women of faith who conquered, endured and ran their own race. The good news is that, we have these patriarchs and saints as our supporters, cheering us onto victory.

Just as an athlete is not allowed to wear a helmet and breast plate or any other clothe they like for racing, so our race requires that we maintain the discipline of training and some stripping off of all things that slow us down or hold us back. SIN in particular, together with all other weights that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet.

Decide today to take off the heavy cloak of sin that you may still be wearing. Repent of it and plead for mercy. We have a high priest who has gone through this world and was tempted in every way and yet did not sin. He is always there to help us with this race.

Child of God run therefore, and run well. Never be weary or disgruntled. Continue to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. His joy is your strength and His word, your guide throughout this journey to the very end. Those who run with Him are not only assured of victory but the crown of life that Father has set before us.

Let us meet at church and continue to encourage one and another. We win in Jesus name!
