They May Just Be Right, You Know?

Topic: They May Just Be Right, You Know?
Text: Luke 6: 45

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. Amen

The modern day believer is very sophisticated. He does not agree that negative actions and words reflect the position of his heart towards godliness. In fact, he has managed to get everyone believing that even though his actions and words are mostly negative, his heart is full of good. He has personal devotion with God everyday and so cannot over emphasize how guaranteed his position in Christ is. He may be full of negativity, but claims that is how he’s been from birth. It should not be used as a measure of godliness.

Well, the Lord Jesus Christ knew that this would happen in our time so He taught His disciples one day and said, “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruits. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers.” (Luke 6: 43-44)

Do you now see why your Christianity is not convincing enough? No one knows what private relationship you have with the Lord, all they know is the fruits you bear at the office; and honestly, it is not the kind that reflects the Holy Spirit. That is why they question the hours of prayers, bible study and fellowship you claim to have with God everyday. And guess what, they may just be right.

You see, the incorruptible seed of Christ produces Children who are His kind. The Holy Spirit living in them enables them bear fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control (Galatians 5: 22-23). So don’t be surprised that people question your Christianity each time you are frustrated, angry, tempted or over burdened. The things you say and do are very unexpected of a child of God. That is why they question how you could claim to be a good tree but your fruits say otherwise.

Kindly lay aside your ego and critically examine your heart. Your spouse, family members, friends and colleagues may just be right you know, especially when you keep getting worse and worse everyday with an attitude that sharply contrasts the nature of Christ.

Instead of feeling judged and condemned, let us go back to Master Jesus for cleansing and fixing. Pray for a heart that emulates Christ and a present mind intent on pleasing Him. Put to death the old man and put on the nature of Christ. Allow the Holy Spirit to nurture your growth in the Lord and take after His gentle ways.

He will make your righteousness shine forth like light (Psalm 37: 6). A candle light that stands on the mountain of God, radiating His love and goodness to all men, saving some for Christ!
