They Abandoned Their Proper Dwelling

Topic: They Abandoned Their Proper Dwelling
Text: Jude 1: 6

“And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling— these He has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.” Amen

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, and all things within. He then gave man dominion over all the earth, so that through His daily fellowship with man, earth will be nurtured, harnessed and governed, for His glory.

Just as man should take care of the earth, God again with winds and fire, created angels and celestial beings to dwell with Him in the heavens above. They obey Him as His messengers and adore Him as their King. Psalm 104: 2,4 puts it better when it says, “The Lord wraps Himself in light as with a garment; He stretches out the heavens like a tent. He makes winds His messengers, flames of fire His servants.”

From this we can agree with David when He says, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet. (Psalm 8: 3- 6).

Inspite of all this, man fell and lost it all, quickly becoming a slave to sin and death. For this reason, the son of God came down from glory, to reconcile us back to God. Now don’t forget that; “15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. 19 For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.” (Colossians 1: 15- 16, 19- 20)

“14 Since the children have flesh and blood, He too (THE SON) shared in their humanity so that by His death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil. — 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels He helps, but Abraham’s descendants. 17 For this reason He had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.” (Hebrews 2: 14- 18).

“1 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.” (Hebrews 2: 1- 4).

Beloved we have no excuse than to receive this great gift of salvation the Lord offers, remain in the Lord, and abide in our proper dwelling till He appears or calls us home. Remember even angels who did not keep their positions of authority have not been spared everlasting chains. Our excuses won’t help on the great Day. Only those who are in Christ and those who are not matters that day. Don’t abandon your proper dwelling for the world- Jesus must be your home forever.
