The Gift Of Life

Today’s Devotion
Topic: The Gift Of Life
Text: Psalm 21: 4

He asked you for life, and you gave it to him–length of days, for ever and ever. Amen

All men and living creatures exist because we have life. Just as every business needs capital to run effectively, so do all living things require life to exist and become useful on earth.

Life, even though can be compared to the capital of a business, assumes its own unique characteristics too. For instance, life is a free gift of God to all men. Capital is not a free gift but a form of investment given by men with expected returns. Also, life, unlike capital is given without measure to all men.

Life again can be seen as so costly but priceless. It is the most important requirement needed to be called “a living thing” yet the gift we absolutely take for granted.

There are 3 expressions of this precious gift called life that we want to explore briefly:

i. Life for all mankind. That actually is the kind of life we naturally receive after conception. Its the ability to breathe, move, grow etc. It’s so freely given that we abuse it.

ii. The God Given Life (Zoe): This is the new life we receive when give our lives to Christ. It’s a life that doesn’t conform to the patterns of this world but is transformed by the renewing of the mind. This is the kind of life received in God by grace. For in Him we live, move and have our being.

iii: Life Eternal: This is the extension of the God life. It is the life we receive after death or rapture that allows us to spend eternity with the Father for ever and ever.

Dearly Beloved, we are assured of better days ahead so long as we live in Him. We shall not die but live to declare His goodness to generations. But should we die, we have eternity to spend with the Lord in awesome fellowship. Let us therefore make good use of our days on earth and incline our hearts to His decrees.

Begin to pray now. Pray for long life with good health and thank God for the gift of a new day.
