Thanksgiving Offering

Topic: Thanksgiving Offering

Text: Psalm 50: 14- 15
14 “Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, 15 and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honour me.” Amen
In the middle of praise, the tongue of the Psalmist turned and he begun to prophesy. It was the Lord God Himself Speaking through him. He said: “Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God. I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me. I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
“I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it. Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honour me.” (Ps 50: 7- 14)
Dearly Beloved, can you see what the Lord desires more than burnt offerings of bulls and birds and insects? Thanksgiving offerings! Yes; a sincere appreciation of all He’s done for you. He also requires that we fulfil our vows. Those promises, pledges and vows that we voluntarily make to Him.
Like, “Father I will serve you with all my heart”,  “Lord I give you my heart”, “Lord I will support evangelistic programmes”, “Lord I dedicate my life for your service”, “Lord I’ll bring this amount as thanksgiving offering if you do this or that for me”.
It even includes the vows we make to each other in the presence of the Almighty God. The wedding vows for instance, the oath of service made by professionals, promises of support and help we made to each other, resolutions and convictions we arrive at in prayer and from studying His word.
All of the above go to test the state of our hearts, our motives, and sincerity before God. Those who will thank the Lord and honour the vows made to or before Him, honour Him as God; and He promises to deliver them when they call on Him in the day of trouble.
What are we waiting for then? Burst into thanksgiving for all the wonderful things God has done for you. Even for those things that are yet to unfold. Renew your vows to Him and ask for strength to start fulfilling them. Now forget about the many threats of the enemy that come to make one of your days “the day of trouble”. The Lord will deliver you and you will honour Him. See you at church.
