Simple Weapons, Powerful God!

Topic: Simple Weapons, Powerful God!
Text: 1 Samuel 17: 40, 50

40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine. 50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. Amen

We have often heard about some great warriors in the bible who made conquest with simple tools that will not kill a fly, and its amazing.

In Judges 3: 31, we see Shamgar the son of Anath; smote 600 Philistines with an OX-GOAD (a long pointed stick or rod used for guiding and urging the oxen in plowing). Samson kills 1000 men with the jawbone of a donkey (Judges 15: 15). The question is, did they prevail by the sophistication and potency of the weapons they carried?

You see when David went to meet Goliath with a staff, sling and 5 stones, the gaint felt insulted by those despicable weapons. He was a serious man and wasn’t ready for jokes. David’s faith however, made the battle a contest not between himself and Goliath, (as the gaint perceived in the natural) but between God and Goliath. So though his weapons were despised, they proved effective to winning victory.

Beloved, in Ephesians 6, the believer is called to be a soldier, not to fight flesh and blood but spiritual battles against the powers of darkness. Actually the armor is for protection, but there is one offensive weapon – “the Sword of the Spirit, which is the WORD OF GOD. As Goliath despised David’s weapons and the Philistines Shamgar’s, so our weapon is quite despised as well.

But the weapons of our warfare are mighty through God, to cast down every stronghold and set God’s people free. Therefore put on the full armor of God and fight the good fight of faith. Advance against the enemy with the WORD. Jesus overcame satan with the Word. Despicable as it may seem, it is actually “alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4: 12).

So, by all means arm yourself with the armor of God, but be sure to grab your weapon as well (THE WORD). Meditate upon it day and night. It will guide your feet, light your path and give you victory over all the fiery darts of the enemy. Begin to pray now, if the WORD IS A WEAPON, then we must learn how to apply it. Ask the Holy Spirit to grant you the desire for the WORD and the understanding of it.

In the name of Jesus, WE HAVE THE VICTORY. HE’S THE CAPTAIN OF THE ARMIES OF HEAVEN. Click: https://youtu.be/XuLZOrUSf3k
