Put It In Writing

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Put It In Writing
Text: Ezra 1:1- 2

1 In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing: 2 “This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:“‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Amen

We are reliably informed by scientists that 70% of our brain capacity is under utilized. Much as we don’t (and never intend to) dispute that fact, many of us will testify that our minds feel choked already.

Filled with memories of the past that are gradually fading away, current experiences – both good and bad, and obviously plans for future; the brain is constantly deleting information and piling up some more.

God, being fully aware of our human tendency to forget encouraged some leading personalities in the bible to write down many of the deep “truths” He (God) reveals to them.

One of such men was Cyrus, king of Persia. After he had been led by God to make a proclamation concerning rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. God further instructs the king to put the proclamation in writing to serve as a point of reference for generations to come. And truly this written proclamation later became useful (Ezra 6:1..)

Do you have any business idea? Put it in writing. The musician inspired by the Holy Spirit must also put the song in writing. Dear preacher, please write the Word God has commanded you to speak to His people. All the above are necessary because the pressures of this world can make one forget easily.

We need to be careful however of what we write, it is not useful to jot down negative experiences that keep us bitter and unforgiving. That will only breed discouragement and revenge. Write things that insipre your faith and aspirations.

As we make the decision to put important revelations and ideas in writing, let us also ask God to write His Word on the tablets of our hearts for easy reference and obedience. Begin to pray now!
