Pay That Debt

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Pay That Debt
Text: Luke 19: 8

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Amen

Sometimes, just sometimes, Christians can be the worse “borrowers”. We fail to honour the promises we make to people especially when we owe them.

Over the years some Christians have pick the unfortunate skill of cooking up quite emotional situations so as to receive favours or loans from others. Of course we turn our backs to these helpers when its time to fulfil our part of the bargain.

We have by this attitude brought the name of Christ to disrepute. We can not be trusted anymore, even when the story we share is true and the assistance we seek is the only way out. It’s sad to realise that no one is ready to go the extra mile for a fellow Christian anymore because of dishonesty.

Beloved if you owe anybody anything, please don’t hide away from them, or pretend you have forgotten about it only because they are not asking. Don’t keep lying to fustrate them or turn death ears to their plea and calls. That doesn’t honor God.

Like Zacchaeus, knowing how much it cost Christ to pay the huge spiritual debt we owed, can only trigger in us the desire to pay others all outstanding debts we owe. This we do as a token of our love for God and an expression of our utmost gratitude for what Christ has done for us.

Zacchaeus also demonstrates to us believers that no debt is too old to be paid. Once it has not been canceled by the creditor, we must honor it.

Romans 13: 7-8a says: “Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another!

Meditate on all the above as we begin a new working week. Why don’t you resolve to pay those you owe their due within the shortest possible time? Let us demonstrate to the world that the seed of Christ is in us. Call someone you owe today, tell them you are sorry it has taken so long. Then do all that is within your power to settle them. God will help you. Prove your honesty and God will do the rest!

Dear Lord, give us hearts like yours. Click: https://youtu.be/fd0qOWTPhFE
