Mightier Than the Thunder of the Great Waters

Today’s Devotion

Topic: Mightier Than the Thunder of the Great Waters
Text: Psalm 93: 4

Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the Lord on high is mighty. Amen

When a Tsunami heads for a coast, no one can stop it or do anything about it. Its waters devour anything on its way until entire coastlines are totally submerged. That is how strong a wave can be.

But stronger than the force of rushing waters is our Lord. He is not called El Shaddai (or God Almighty) for nothing. He reigns over all and is above all. Robed in majesty and armed with strength, who can measure His inconceivable power?

Sometimes we forget how mighty our God is; especially in the face of challenges, then we begin to fret. But “How great is our Lord! His POWER is ABSOLUTE! His understanding is beyond comprehension” (Ps 147: 5 NLT). Job explains that “He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; He suspends the earth over nothing. He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.” (Job 26: 7- 8)

“He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness. Yet these are but the outer fringe of His works; how faint the whisper we hear of Him! Who then can understand the thunder of His power?” (Job 26: 10, 14)

David continues where Job ended and says this of our God: “Your throne was established long ago; You are from all eternity. The seas have lifted up, Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. (But You are) Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, (and) mightier than the breakers of the sea— the Lord on High is Mighty.” (Ps 93: 3-4)

Meditate on this word and begin to pray, beloved. As we begin a new working week today, remind all your storms of the greatness of our God. Is He not mightier than the breakers of the sea; and more powerful than any sickness or disease; is He not more powerful than any mountain that stands your way; who has been able to fathom the THUNDER OF HIS POWER? Pray until the winds and waves obey His command that, “PEACE — BE STILL.”
