Lies

Today’s Devotion

Topic: Lies

Text: John 8: 44

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Amen

We lie everyday, either to look good in front of people and maintain a good image, or to save ourselves from the consequences of the very mistakes we are guilty of. Others lie to get what they want, just the way they want it. Yet a few more lie simply because they generally lack the courage to stand out among the crowd and speak the truth.

Well, dearly beloved, the next time you feel tempted to lie, think through the passage you just read (John 8: 44), and ask yourself if it is worth the bargain.

Jesus says in John 14: 6 “I am the way, the TRUTH and the life” and that’s exactly so. He has no lie in Him and therefore recommends this divine life for us too.

Lying is the native language of the devil. Can you imagine that? It means whatever he says or will ever say will never be the TRUTH, but arrant lies. When you lie, you begin to identify with him (satan) both as his own, and as an aid to help him carry out his agenda on earth through lies. He’s been a liar from the very begining and has been crowned “father of all lies.”

Take heed therefore, and “let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one” (Matthew 5: 37). As children of the light, let us imbibe God’s divine nature and speak the truth at all times; be it on the phone, at a staff meeting, or anywhere else we may be. In our relationships with one another, truth must prevail.

You see, lying just entangles us in complex negativity, but the truth sets us free (John 8:32). Meditate upon this and begin to pray. Break even tie with the spirit of lies that makes you always seek comfort with what is not truth. Ask for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. He is the Spirit of truth. If He dwells in you, and you give Him absolute dominion, lies will never have a place in your heart!
