Title: Let it go!

Text: Genesis 50: 20

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Amen.

This is an extract from the story of Joseph. As you may already know, after their father died, his brothers sent him a word asking for forgiveness because they feared he might pay them back for the evil they did against him years earlier. Very interestingly, Joseph in Gen 50:19 answered them saying, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?”

Today’s world is not very different from Joseph’s era. We hurt each other just as much as we feel hurt by others, and it is often based on simple issues that we could easily let go, yet we would rather not.

Many of us have kept years of grudges, bitterness and pain against people who have no clue, while, others have been careful to let their “offenders” know that they are hurt but refuse to forgive them.

We can all at any point in time feel justified for the wrong we do against one  another and at the same time feel bitter about the ‘bad’ we believe others have done to us so that the blame cycle continues. However, let’s  just face the plain truth: Do we all not need forgiveness as much as we need to forgive? Has each backstabbing, disappointment and ill treatment not made us wiser, stronger and better than before? Are we not trusting God better than man now because somebody failed us when we needed them most?

If the above is true, then just let it go. Forgive that friend who betrayed your trust. Forgive that beloved who hurt you beyond your wildest imagination. Forgive that parent who was never there for you. Hopefully, you will be a better parent to your own children.

Forgive that brother or sister who sold you out to strangers going a distant land and told a lie that some wild animal had devoured you. Forgive Potiphar’s wife who framed you up and got you thrown in jail for an offence you never committed. Forgive those friends who have forgotten all about you although you helped them climb up when you were cast down and in prison. Just let go!

Like Joseph explained, we are not in the place of God to take revenge. When you free your offenders, you free yourself. Begin to pray therefore and ask the Holy Spirit to help you get rid of all the rage and bitterness harboured against all who have treated you badly over the years. Let them go and watch God turn all what was intended to harm you, for good. You will be amazed what God can do.
