If You Knew

Topic: If You Knew

Text: John 4:10 (NLT)
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.” Amen

On a daily basis, we all relate with  several people; some known to us, and others unknown. Sometimes people relate poorly with ‘strangers’, only to realise later that they should have done better because the strangers may have something they need, or may be in a position to be of help to them in the near future.

Usually, the first thought that is likely to go through the minds of such ‘offenders’ is “If I only knew…” Indeed if they only knew the person, they would behave differently.

This was the case of the Samaritan woman, as recorded in John chapter 4. She didn’t know who it was that was speaking to her.

Beloved, could it be that you too do not know exactly who you say you believe in and belong to? Could it be that your entire life depicts a low level of faith in God as a result of your lack of knowledge of Him? Ponder over these!
If you knew the One who tells you, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you”, then you’ll also say with confidence that “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Isaiah 43:1&2; Hebrews 13:5&6)

If you knew the One who tells you to cast your cares upon Him for He cares for you, you’ll not be anxious for anything; but in all things, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, you’ll make your requests known unto Him so that His peace which passes all understanding will guard your heart and mind. (1Peter 5:7; Philippians 4:6&7)

If you knew the One who says unto you; “do not worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs”, then you would learn to seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:31-33)

If you knew the One who asks, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” Then you would believe in every single word He has spoken concerning your life. (John 11:40)

This morning, pray for the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation. Ask God to open your eyes to see Him as He really is. May He rekindle in you a hunger and thirst for His Word through which you will get to know Him better.
