Topic: He Didn’t Know

Text: Judges 16: 19- 20

After putting him to sleep on her lap, she called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him. Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. Amen

Samson said, “I will shake myself like before,” but he didn’t know the Lord had left him. While he rested his head on the lap of a woman, he didn’t know he was sacrificing his life, position, anointing and the destiny of the entire nation.

But did the Lord suddenly decide to abandon Samson? Certainly not. God favoured him above several others and set him aside for His divine purpose.

Samson rejected several promptings and advice; he neglected all the codes of godliness. He made several compromises in the past and got away unpunished, but this one was to cut short his life.

Beloved, the humble question for the day is, ‘why is your head usually on her lap and she’s not even your wife’? ‘How come you keep waking up by his side in his room when he has not married you yet’?

It’s either we obey God and live, or risk losing everything in exchange for temporal pleasure. For Samson, he didn’t know the Lord had left him. Think about this, because others like you have decided to “Flee the evil desires of youth to pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” (2 Tim 2:22)

Although tempted in everyway just like you, they will not destroy their bodies which is the temple of the Lord. For this reason the LORD has not left them at all, and His presence makes it impossible for the enemy to destroy them.

For “the Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in TRUTH” (Ps 145:18). Let us, in truth, honour God with our bodies not just our lips — as for Samson, he didn’t know the Lord had left him.
