God’s Own Special People

Topic: God’s Own Special People
Text: Exodus 19: 3b- 4

“This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.'” Amen

As far as their exodus from Egypt was concerned, Israel saw the whole journey as a mistake and a difficult one that was meant to kill them in the wilderness. They complained and grumbled at everything. They even thought being left to die in Egypt was a better option than what they were facing in the desert.

However, as far as God was concerned, this had not been a difficult journey at all; this whole time they were complaining and grumbling, He (God) had them carried on eagle’s wings and was hoping they would know. The reason was so they could be far from the reach of predators. And also so that their feet do not stumble. The height was also meant to get them far from the things that distract, and get them closer to God and focused on the destination ahead of them. But they hated every bit of it.

Precious One, honestly, so much goes on in the spiritual realm that we often do not know nor understand unless revealed by God for a purpose.

Of the much that God does for us, we just focus our attention on the few things that are not going our way and complain till we render God a ‘liar’ in our own eyes. Right after that, we look for ways to rather go back to Egypt (or our former world of slavery and oppression) than to have God device our faith so we can continue with Him to the destination.

God has not given up on us and He does not intend to. Even now, inspite of all our negativity, He still has a special word for us. He sent Moses with this message for His people: “if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” ( Exo 19: 5-6a)

Wow! What a privilege that we should become the Lord’s own treasured possession – that out of the nations we become His own special people? This is wonderful.

Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Ask for grace to fully obey His Word and keep His commandents even with the odds against you.

God loves you more than you know, and desires to take you to an expected end and give you hope. Do not look at your current situation and complain your way back to Egypt. The Lord carries you well on eagle’s wings; you will never miss your way. Only obey fully His Word and of all nations, you will remain HIS MOST TREASURED POSSESSION!
