Give Us Our Daily Bread!

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Give Us Our Daily Bread!
Text. Matthew 6: 11

Give us this day our daily bread. Amen.

Forget about greed for now. Let us focus on mere hunger. Critically considering a few thoughts, man works that tiredlessly all the days of his life just to be able to afford food? Wow!That makes food so important right?

No wonder many have had to lie, cheat, steal or compromise on a christian or moral value, just to be able to afford food and other human needs, such as clothing and shelter.

One day, Jesus’ desciples went to Him and asked to be taught how to pray. Jesus replied; “This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:9-11).

Beloved, from the prayer taught above, we realise that Jesus acknowledges that we believers have pressing needs. And agrees that it is even okay to ask for food or our needs right after seeking that God’s will is done here on earth, as it is in heaven.

Why then do we not pray to our Father in heaven about our needs each morning before we step into the day? Especially when we are fully aware that it is the mercies of God, through our prayers and hardwork, that ensures the increase in yield that provide food on the table.

Why don’t we see it a necessity to SOAK our jobs and businesses in the blood of Jesus for protection against the activities of the evil one? Why do we not ask for the latter rain of God over all we do? Why do we miss all this, only to step out everyday and chase the wind?

See, we have another day today. Jesus says “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! (Matthew 7:11). Get ready to pray. We are going to ask our Father in heaven to provide us with this day’s daily bread and to supply every need according to His riches in glory.

Our prayer is very simple: “Oh Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love. May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; ESTABLISH THE WORKS OF OUR HANDS FOR US – YES, ESTABLISH THE WORK OF OUR HANDS. (Psalm 90: 1, 4a, 12, 14a, 17).
