Examine Your Motives

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Examine Your Motives
Text: James 4: 2- 3

“…Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong — you want only what will give you pleasure.” Amen

Two revealing facts are presented in the Scripture above:

1) Some people do not receive what they want because they do not ask God in prayer for it. They simply assume that since God knows all things, He should be able to tell what their needs are and automatically supply them.

2) Others do ask alright, but do not receive what they ask God for in prayer, because their motives are not right. Such people desire and ask God for things that will satisfy their pleasures alone. They not care about the WILL of God or the interest of THE KINGDOM. They really can not be bothered about OTHERS and God’s Agenda for them. If what they are asking for puts them directly opposite the WORD OF GOD, they still want it because it gratifies their fantasy.

Ponder over this; what is your motive for that one thing you have been praying, fasting, screaming and jumping for? Is it so you can taunt someone you deem an enemy, prove a point for others to know you are right before the Lord, or to use it as a resource for accomplishing God’s purpose for your life?

Consider what King Solomon asked God for- WISDOM; do you remember what He needed the wisdom for? If you do, then you must remember those priceless virtues God added as well. Just to prove that if we seek the kingdom of God and it’s righteousness, all other things are added to us.

Pray now and present ALL your heart’s desires unto God, this time, with the right motives. He is faithful to His promises for your life. Not one of it will fail, in Jesus mighty name.
