Do As Unto God!

Topic: Do As Unto God!
Text: Colossians 3: 23

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” Amen.

Paul, the servant of God, admonishes us this morning, on the attitude we must portray when it comes to LIVING and WORK. . He advises that, whatsoever our hands find to do, in living and working, we must first do it heartily, then as unto God, and not man.

The Apostle is fully aware that the attitude of man can at some point discourage good works and defeat the very purpose of work as an occupation. This is so true such that if “man” was both the inspiration and objective for our good works, then we are in trouble. Let us break it down this way:

  1. You know, there are times your boss gives you your best appraisal in one day, and yet thinks you’re worst by the next day, right? He or she may be so right about your latest appraisal but when you realise the change in position is due to some personal expectations they had of you, you couldn’t meet, then it demoralises work, right?
  2. Someone you have really helped or been there for in their worse sitiation can turn their backs at you in your worst. Others may even spite you as soon as the change in their situation puts them in an advantageous position.
  3. Also, for being very godly and positive when it comes to work, you can attract all forms of comments and attacks, from the same work colleagues whom you had hoped could encourage and urge you on.
  4. Even you! Yes! you know how inconsistent your thoughts can get about work. Sometimes you really want to work hard to uplift the image of the company or be a blessing to the people around. Other times, you can not be bothered. You would rather give one excuse or another and hide away.

From the 4 basic analysis about working with and for man, can you now see why it is important to make God, the inspiration and objective for all we say and do?

He is our employer. He evalutes and appraises our work too, even if it is your own business. He rewards us daily when we work as unto HIM. Remember, promotion does not come from the east or west, but from the Lord. HE REWARDS US ACCORDING TO OUR WORKS.

Be INSPIRED this morning for greater works even when you don’t feel like it. Try and do so heartily as unto God. He rewards, both the hardwork and the cheer with which we work.

As we begin a new working week that leads to a new month, you too begin to pray about all these! Ask for grace to live and work as unto God. No matter the pressure or struggle. “Do not be slothful in zeal, rather, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” (Romans 12: 11).

Declare over your life and company: “Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!” (Psalm 90: 17). And “you shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you,” (Psalm 128: 2). in Jesus mighty name.
