Destiny Helpers (Part 2)

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Destiny Helpers (Part 2)
Text: 1 Samuel 9: 8

The servant answered him again. “Look,” he said, “I have a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us what way to take.” Amen

Yesterday, we saw how the three day futile search for his father’s missing donkeys turned out to be God’s way of ushering Saul into destiny. Also, we established that God can use anyone or anything to aid us into His purpose for our lives, and not necessarily the very people we expect Him to use.

Today, we want to look at three lessons we can generate from Saul’s journey and transformation from Kish’s son to Israel’s first king.

Firstly, from our dicussion yesterday, we realized how the journey of searching for lost donkeys turned rather to be a journey of greatness unto honour. This presupposes that God in His infinite wisdom orchestrated all the things precipitating the search without the knowledge of Kish, Saul and the Servant.

To them, this was a disturbing situation that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. But to God, it was certainly the begining of something great in the history of His people and definitely the beginning of greater honour for Kish and his family.

In our own lives, things are no different. Sometimes we go through certain situations we do not understand, but God has a reason. All the despair and worry will not in any way help the process. Rather, we must learn to thank God through it all and pray for the grace to endure to the end.

We must never give up the good fight, nor give up the search for God’s purpose in all of this; because whatever we may be going through could just be the beginning of something great and magnificent in our lives.

Secondly, the critical role Saul’s servant played makes one ask, ‘how come he was this persistent and loyal to his master even to the extent that he gave out his last money to enable them see the Seer (Prophet)’? Moreover, ‘What made Saul so concerned about their safety, saying to him, ‘let us go back, or my father will stop thinking about the donkeys and start worrying about us”?

Again, ‘what made Saul even bother to listen to the servant’s suggestions’? Among other things, this could suggest a good relationship between Kish’s family, represented here by Saul, and their servants.

Actually, Saul might have been a good master. He might have had a good heart towards the servant and never despised him because he was his servant. This could have been the reason why the servant felt no restrictions to express himself, and even had the guts to give contrary opinion to his master’s suggestion that they return.

Beloved, how do you treat those under you? Talking about those entrusted in your care and those who aid you ‘carry your loads’? How do u treat those who are less privileged around you? Learn from Saul and be careful; God can use anyone to bless you.

Last but not the least, Saul said in verse 21, “Am I not a Benjamite, from the smallest tribe of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin?” Brethren, it doesn’t matter where you come from. When the favour of God dawns on you, it breaks every barrier.
Remember what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1: 26-29, he said:

“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him.”

Meditate on this and never despise your self for a day. You belong to God and He knows you as His — an heir of the Father and joint-heir with the Son. Profess your heritage in Christ everyday so that your faith can rise above all obstacles placed to cause you to stumble.

Say to yourself daily, “I am a child of light and have overcome darkness in Jesus name. I walk by faith and not by sight. I am walking in power and miracle; I live a life of favour; I am the head and not the tail.” Are you not the words you profess to be? Proclaim with confidence your heritage in Christ then, and He will be your joy and crown eternally.
