Consistent Prayer

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Consistent Prayer!
Text : Acts 1: 12- 14

14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. Amen

Prayer is so important that it must remain unceasing. It is the lifeline of all who desire fellowship with God. Even those who hope to overcome the devices of the enemy and those who yearn for eternal life.

Honestly, it is totally unhealthy to make prayer the seasonal intervention to troubling situations. The ritual we perform against evil spirits when we are afraid.

The Lord Jesus Christ often arose to a solitary place to pray while it was still dawn (Mk 1: 35). He prayed about everything before doing anything. He even taught that man aught to pray and not faint (Lk 18: 1). He also advised that we watch and pray lest we fall into temptation (Mat 26: 41).

The Apostles also joined forces in consistent prayer. This was even before the Holy Spirit descended on them on the day of Pentecost.  Like their Master Jesus, they prayed about everything before doing anything. You remember how they prayed before choosing  Matthias to replace Judas as the twelfth apostle (Acts 1: 23- 26).

What is the situation today Child of God? We seem to have suceeded in making prayer the “preoccupation” of few unemployed young men whom we could even pay to fast and pray on our behalf. We call them after every bad dream and accept whatever interpretations and directives they give. We bearly know God for ourselves.

The church, which Jesus said must be “a house of prayer” ,really has no prayer activity going on there, except for Friday evening lukewarm prayer meetings. Pastors are busily attending conferences. The few who love prayer too are bound to have empty pews when they call for prayer meetings unless they perform “signs and wonders”.

They Apostles never asked for signs and wonders. They bearly had numerous conferences to attend like we do now. They never kept very tight preaching apointments that made them too busy to spend time with God in prayer. They had no excuses when it was about God, neither had they the desire to contract anyone to pray on their behalf.

They simply loved God and connected to Him through prayer and the study of the Holy Scriptures. They did not follow after signs and wonders; those two rather followed them.

Begin to pray now. Ask for grace to love God and enjoy the times you share with Him. A consistent prayer life is the perfect foundation for a victorious life in Christ. See you at church!
