Carried On Eagles Wings

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Carried On Eagles Wings
Text: Exodus 19: 3b- 5

3b “This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, Amen.

The deliverance of Israel from the hands of pharoah was a tough battle; but not for God. He carried His people on eagle’s wings and flew them to HIMSELF. But the question is: why did God carry Israel on “eagle’s wings”?

The eagle is an extraordinary bird, it is different from many other birds of prey mainly by its large size, more powerful build, heavier head/ beak and unusual eyes five times sharper than that of humans. Some eagles are built with short wings and long tails enabling them hunt in the tight confines of a forest, while others have short tails and broad long wings allowing them to soar high above open plains and water. Jehovah kept Israel soaring on both kinds of wings:

i. On the short wings with a broad tail so that they could descend with speed through the thick and thin to win victories over the foe. Pursuing them wherever they hide and gathering plunder (or hunt for food) for themselves.

ii. At the same time, God kept them soaring with long broad wings to escape the harsh conditions below. At such altitudes, the eyes of the eagle could see danger from afar and escape. It also perceived better lands ahead and settled there. The currents of the wind (in our dispensation- GRACE) made soaring to destinations quite simple without the tiresome task of flapping these wings all through the journey.

God still delivers His children today. But we are human, and humans forget. Otherwise, it remains a vivid fact that your own story is not different. How God delivered you from sin/ evil and kept you on EAGLE’S WINGS (GRACE) TILL NOW, BRINGING YOU TO HIMSELF. And now He says; “if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my TREASURED POSSESSION. Halleluyah!

What shall we say then to this great opportunity to become GOD’S OWN TREASURED POSSESSION? Honestly, when salvation is this free, you don’t choose otherwise. Begin to pray now. Ask for an obedient heart that keeps the covenant of God. Pray with the song “Here I am waiting, abide in me I pray, … Come live in me, all my life, TAKE OVER”.
