Be Like Andrew!

Topic: Be Like Andrew!

Text : John 1: 35- 42
35 The next day, John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” 37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” 39 “Come,” He replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where He was staying, and they spent that day with Him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).” Amen
Beloved, Andrew was a wonderful man. Very very spiritual, determined and thoughtful. This is why:
a) He chose the right company by becoming a discipline of John the Baptist.
b) He was spiritually discerning enough to understand what John meant by referring to Jesus as the “Lamb of God”.
c) His motive for following Jesus was not merely out of curiousity or need. He had not even seen Jesus perform any supernatural deeds yet. He just wanted to DWELL with, and learn from Him.
d) The moment he left Jesus’s side, the first thing He did was to look for His brother/ relative and tell him all about the Messiah.
e) He did not just witness about Christ to his own brother, Peter, he actually brought the brother to Jesus and made sure the brother’s life and destiny had been turned around for good, due to that encounter.
What about you brethren? How long has it been since you heard the preacher say Jesus is the lamb of God? Did you understand what that meant so that you wanted to follow Jesus?
And since you decided to follow Him, has the motive been to find His dwelling place and abide with Him, or this is a “follow” that is merely to feed your curiousity? What about your precious family members and friends? Have you told them all about this Jesus you encountered yesterday? Are you bringing them this Sunday morning to church so they can encounter the the Lord and have their lives transformed too?
It is never too late. Pray for yourself that your walk with Jesus will not be that of curiosity, but one inspired by the decision to dwell in Him. Also pray for all your family members and friends who do not know about our Messiah.
Right after this prayer, witness to them and take them to meet the Lord at church. Their lives are changed forever. He will give them a new heart and a new name (identity). What joy it will be for all heaven if you and all your loved ones knew the Lord? Think about this. See you at church.
