A Significant Sound

Today’s Devotion
Topic: A Significant Sound
Text: Luke 1:41

At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

When the angel Gabriel was sent to deliver the all-important message of the birth of the promised Messiah to Mary, the one who was to bear that Holy Child, she had a lot to ponder about after the visit.

Not only did she have to wonder how her prophecy would come to pass, she also had to struggle to come to terms with the fact that her relative Elizabeth, whom many had considered to be barren had actually become pregnant and was in her sixth month. Unbelievable!

Though perplexed, she decides to hurry to the hill country of Judea a few days later to see Elizabeth. She enters the house and greets Elizabeth. “At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, ‘God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what He said.’

“Mary responded, ‘Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour!'” (vv 39-47)

Beloved, the importance of the kind of words we hear can not be overemphasized. Moreover, the people we hear those words from are as significant as the words themselves. Truth is; lying somewhere deep within you is a special seed — a dream, vision, talent or potential — that needs to be harnessed for the benefit of all humanity.

When God gives this seed, He positions around you people, events and circumstances that will revitalize the seed from time to time and cause it to ‘leap with joy’; knowing very well that it awaits an appointed time to bud and bear fruit. Dearly beloved, what are the ‘sounds’ surrounding you? It is important that you recognize the ones that stir up your seed and propels it into fruition.

Begin to pray. Ask God to help you identify the positive ‘sounds’ in your life so that you’ll fulfill your purpose in life. Also, ask Him to make you a “sound” that spurs others on as you rejoice with them.
