Then Speak Out!

Topic: Then Speak Out!
Text: Psalm 107: 2

Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others He has redeemed you from your enemies. Amen

The primary basis for thanking the Almighty God is the life He gives us each day. For as long as we live, we owe Him thanks; whether or not we are satisfied with our state of being. Interestingly, when we decide to consciously consider the ‘things’ we have to be grateful to God for, we’ll be amazed at how long a list we may come up with.

In today’s scripture, the Psalmist, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, guides us to identify why we should ‘speak His praise out’.
He says:

“Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless. Hungry and thirsty, they nearly died. “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and He rescued them from their distress. He led them straight to safety, to a city where they could live. Let them praise the Lord for His great love and for the wonderful things He has done for them. (vs 4-8).

“Some sat in darkness and deepest gloom, imprisoned in iron chains of misery. They rebelled against the words of God, scorning the counsel of the Most High. That is why he broke them with hard labour; they fell, and no one was there to help them. “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains. Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. (vs 10-15).

“Some went off to sea in ships, plying the trade routes of the world. They, too, observed the Lord’s power in action, His impressive works on the deepest seas. Their ships were tossed to the heavens and plunged again to the depths; the sailors cringed in terror. They reeled and staggered like drunkards and were at their wits’ end. “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as He brought them safely into harbour! Let them praise the Lord for His great love and for the wonderful things He has done for them.” (vs 23-31).

For those of us who, at some point in time, didn’t know where to turn for help until God showed up; for those of us who were bound by sin and had suffered many ills because of our sins; for those of us who have faced very challenging situations at work or at school, we cannot agree more with the Psalmist when he says, “Let them exalt Him publicly before the congregation and before the leaders of the nation” (vs 32).

Get ready for church. Ponder over the goodness of the Lord. Go with a heart filled with gratitude over the MANY WONDERFUL THINGS that the Almighty God has done in your life, and praise Him. He deserves more than we can ever offer.
