Topic: Let’s Work With God On This Too
Text: Matt 14: 16- 20
16 But Jesus said, “That isn’t necessary—you feed them.” 17 “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” they answered. 18 “Bring them here,” He said. 19 Then He told the people to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave the bread to the disciples, who distributed it to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. Amen.
This is a very common text many have read over and over but a lot still remains to be learnt. Today, we shall relate the passage to simple ways of overcoming the day to day challenges of scarcity that confronts us.
Jesus and His disciples have come up to a big task of feeding so many people than they prepare for. Instantly His disciples try to back out by finding relevant reasons why they are not to the task. Let us see however, what Jesus did not only to solve the problem but to teach our faith to trust God’s ability to do more than we can ever imagine nor think.
- He asks for what resources are available so He can make do with what He has and make the most of it.
- He asked the crowd to settle down. This gives him a better chance to fully assess the situation.
- He Prays in faith for God to multiply His scarce resources to meet the huge challenge before Him.
- He gets extra hands (His disciples) to help Him serve the people. They start working hard without being overwhelmed by the sheer numbers. Neither do they allow the amazement of the miracle happening make them loose focus.
- They picked up all the leftovers and counted them. Refusing that nothing goes bad or gets wasted.
Like Jesus did, the little resource we have (be it time, money, intellectual ability and the like), against the current global pandemic and shutdowns, calls for absolute trust in God; plus strategic positioning and implementations to achieve the best results in all things (domestic, corporate and national).
Firstly, let us learn to give thanks for life and for the little resources we have to sustain us till life returns to normalcy. Secondly, re-arrange the challenge to be solved into smaller units, you always have a better assessment that way. Thirdly, pray by faith for God to multiply your resources and efforts to meet the challenging demands. Then again, let’s get helping hands and minds to assist us solve the seeming big challenge. Finally, ensure nothing goes waste.
Meditate on the above and begin to pray now. Ask Jehovah to halt this pandemic in Jesus name, heal the sick, and grant us grace to apply the above principles to help us restore everything to normalcy in Jesus excellent name. Always remember, every big problem still has a solution once we acknowledge and let God in.
