We Can Do Better Than This!

Topic: We Can Do Better Than This!
Text: Mark 11: 15, 17

15. On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 17 And as He taught them, He said, “is it not written: ‘my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But why have you made it ‘a den of robbers?” Amen

The Apostle Paul was not happy about certain things going on in the Corinth Church. He wrote: “In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good. In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it.” (1 Corinthians 11: 17- 18)

So many times, we unconsciously turn the House of the Lord into a city square or market centre. Our attitudes during service sometimes depict we are just not ready for God even though we may be the first to enter and the last to exit. How?

For some, the motive for coming to church is just to satisfy their conscience. Through the working days, they give Caesar his due and on Sundays, God gets His due too. Others come to church because they seek a solution that the world couldn’t offer.

But can you enter in just because you love Him and not out of compulsion or necessity? Will there come a day your soul will desire to be in the presence of God out of free will and not because others pulled you to come?

You know, our attitude when we have come, leaves lot to be desired. We normally sit close to people we are familiar with so we can have long chats during service. Others roam about and would not even care if an usher politely tells them to sit quietly.

Any time we do that, we shift attention from the worship service unto ourselves and that is not acceptable. The House of the Lord is a holy place and must be acknowledged as such. It is a place of worship and “a house of prayer” and as such there must be utmost discipline there.

If you are a church secretary or steward, try and prepare your announcement early enough so that you do not miss any aspect of the service. If you are an instrumentalist or singer, your session does not end after Praises and Worship. You must envelope yourself in the entire service. Ushers, camera and sound technicians MUST also pay attention to God and stop pacing up and down if not for anything.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says. Be encouraged today and go to church. For in His presence, there is fullness of joy. At His right hand side, there are pleasures evermore.

Begin to pray into the today’s service now. Pray also for grace to remain disciplined and attentive in the House of the Lord always. See you at church. Click: https://youtu.be/LR8y8VdHklo
