Topic: Are You Worthy of Trust?

Text: Genesis 39: 6a

So he left in Joseph’s care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Amen

Indeed, every boss / employer / superior would want to have an assistant / employee / subordinate to whom he can confidently assign certain tasks and not look back. The ability to handle tasks efficiently with little or no supervision is a quality that is much sort after in today’s ‘fast-moving’ world. Moreover, God sees us as stewards of whatever we have, wherever we are, at any given time.

All things being equal, those of us who say we are Christians ought to be the best of stewards; worthy of the total trust of our bosses / employers / superiors. But it isn’t so in most cases. The ‘so called Christians’ are the very one’s who would mismanage company assets, embezzle funds, indulge in bribery and corruption, and fuel other vices at the workplace.

In Joseph’s case, the Ishmaelites who bought him from his brothers took him to Egypt and sold him to Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials. As a slave to a heathen master in a foreign land, Joseph could not have enjoyed the best of conditions. He could have chosen to live differently from how he was brought up because he was several miles away from home. Yet, he remained committed to his faith and put himself wholly to the task; he was dedicated in his service and did not shed his duties, thus he soon gained his master’s favour.

The Bible records that Potiphar noticed that the Lord was with Joseph, and everything he did succeeded. So he left in Joseph’s care everything he had. With Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. (Genesis 39: 2- 6)

Beloved, can the same be said of you wherever you are now? Can your superiors trust you enough to assign certain responsibilities to you? Do you abuse your position at the workplace? Do you think that God is proud of your motives and actions as you serve others? Begin to pray.
