Topic: Your Life, Like His, Must Shine!
Text: Matthew 2: 2
“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” Amen!
The birth of Jesus Christ was prophesied over 400 years by prophet Isaiah before He was born (Isaiah 7:14). The fulfillment of this promise is recorded in the book of Matthew where we see that after Jesus was born in Bethlehem, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him” (Matt 2:1-2).
Beloved, what caught the attention of these wise men from the East to come and worship Him was His star? The Bible, on several occasions, opine that Jesus is the great light of the world (John 9: 5). Also, the sun of righteousness who shines on us with healing in His wings (Malachi 4: 2a). It is the reflection of His bright light that makes our lives shine too.
Precious one, once you are a born again, Spirit filled Christian with the seed of Christ implanted deep inside of you (Gal 3:16, 29), then your life will shine; no matter what you go through. Apostle Paul gives the practical steps and literally demonstrates how the children of God can and must shine in the most amazing way possible. He wrote to the Philippians, saying:
“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed–not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence–continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose. Do everything without grumbling or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky” (Phil 2: 12- 15).
Are you identifying so much darkness in your life? That should not be your portion, child of God. We are supposed to be the light of the world; a people whose lights so shine before men, that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father in heaven. (Matt 5: 14, 16)
Therefore, begin to pray. Ask for a heart that reveres God unto obedience, the grace to work out your salvation with fear and trembling and the discipline to do all things without grumbling or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure, (a child of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation). Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.
Also, where circumstances cloud your radiance so that the brightness of your life is not at its full potential, don’t worry. The fact that the weather gets cloudy does not mean the stars are not shinning. It may just be a temporary hold up. Hold on to God and trust His Word as truth, pray and walk in obedience day and night. And you will notice the thick cloud causing storms will give way to the command of the Lord that you be set free and made whole.
Arise therefore, and let nothing stop your radiance. The more you shine, the farther the darkness goes. The more you shine, the more you attract grace from far and near. Get closer to the Lord Jesus, our source of light, and to other believers who are children of light, and you will see your dim light glowing until it brightens every corner you are. See you at church.
