Topic : You Still Lack One Thing!
Text: Luke 18: 21- 22
21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said. 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him,“You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then COME, FOLLOW ME.” Amen.
A certain ruler once asked Jesus, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”. Jesus answered, “You know the commandments: do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.”. All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said. When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “you still lack one thing”.
In many universities, there a big lecture halls. These halls accommodate many students at a time for lectures. The reality is that anybody can equally sit in those lectures and listen for free. However, on examination day, not everyone can be allowed to take the exam. Only those who are duly registered with the school as students of that program.
In like manner, many of us go to church, give to the needy and charity and do all the other great good works, BUT, may still lack one thing. SALVATION!
You see, just as you WILL NOT reward anyone you have not contracted to work for you but does that on his/her own accord, likewise, until one receives Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior, all other good works amount to nothing.
Is that why Jesus asked the ruler to sell his possession? Is christianity against riches? The answer is No! Jesus was drawing the attention of the ruler to the fact that salvation (or securing a place in heaven), was more to be desired than earthly possessions or materialism. And that those who seek eternal life must be willing to forfiet the world and its pleasures, come to Jesus for the gift of salvation and learn of Him every step along the way (follow Him).
Beloved, are you ready now? Why should this oportunity to gain eternal life through faith, skip you by? Remember being good does not guarantee eternal life. Say this prayer “Lord Jesus, I admit I am a sinner and that you died in my place that i might live. Therefore I invite you into my heart as my Lord and personal Saviour. Come and dine with me. Make me yours, take control of my life and help me live for you all the days of my life.
If you have said this prayer with faith, salvation has come to you. Find a bible believing church in your area and introduce yourself to the Pastor in charge. They will pray for you and help disciple you for Christ.
And always remember that if anyone be in Christ, He is a new creation, the old has gone, the new is here (2 Cor 5: 17). Your life is changed for good. Welcome to the family of Christ!
