Text: 2 Chron 18: 33- 34
33 But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the breastplate and the scale armour. The king told the chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.” 34 All day long the battle raged, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. Then at sunset he died. Amen
It is very necessary to be wary of the alliances we get ourselves into. Ahab set Jehoshaphat up in battle by disguising himself as a common soldier leaving Jehoshaphat exposed as the target of war due to his royal robe.
Well, his plan almost succeeded until Jehoshaphat cried out and the Lord helped him. “God drew the enemy away from him, for when the chariot commanders saw that He was not the king of Israel, they stopped pursuing him” (2 Chron 31b – 32).
All this while however, King Ahab, the real target of the war, had smartly disguised himself. No one could particularly tell that this was Ahab. However, someone (still unknown to us all), drew his bow AT RANDOM and hit Ahab directly between the breastplate and the scale armour. He died by sunset, his wickedness with him.
Beloved, here is a big lesson for all unrepentant souls who completely sell themselves over to do evil in the sight of God; those who ignore the word and warnings of the Lord and do as they please, setting others up for destruction so that they can live and enjoy. Those who defy the sanctity of friendship by harbouring evil intentions that are difficult to detect by their unsuspecting companions.
Tell them that there is a GREAT GOD in heaven who sees through the hearts of men. The time and hour to repent is NOW! For a day is coming soon when a stray arrow hovering at random will strike their hearts; and that will be the end of all their schemes, mischief, conspiracies, and for many, their lives. That day will be called THE DAY OF THE LORD, AND IT WILL CATCH UP WITH MAN LIKE A THIEF AT NIGHT.
Do not let your end be like that of Ahab. Do not wait till you are caught by the very trap you set for the destruction of others. “Repent now, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3: 19). Begin to pray now. Ask the Lord Jesus into your heart.
As we start a new working week, always remember anyone who sets traps for others, is likely to be entangled and destroyed by those same evil intentions. Solomon puts it best when he writes, “If you roll a boulder down on others, it will crush you instead” (Prov 26: 27 NLT).
You see, just when you feel smartly disguised and invincible, A RANDOM ARROW WILL STRIKE YOU WHERE IT HURTS BADLY. REPENT THEREFORE AND JOURNEY ON IN LIFE WITH A CLEAN HEART. GOD WILL HELP YOU! FOR BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART, ONLY THEY CAN SEE GOD!
