You Are Close To Sin, Beware Text: Genesis 13:12, 14:12

13:12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. 14:12 They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom. Amen

Sin is close to us everyday. It’s in the T.V. program we love, music we listen to, the “hang-out” places we love and “certain” people we entertain.

Prov. 22: 3 says “the wise sees danger and takes refuge”. This means irrespective of how close sin is to us, it is our choice to either fall into it or flee before we get overtaken by that sin and its consequences.

Abram parted company with Lot because their shared territory couldn’t contain them both. Lot after selecting his place of preference (ie the plain of the Jordan), finally pitched his tent near Sodom. This means Lot wasn’t living in Sodom, but only close to it. (Gen 13: 12). But we later realize in chapter 14:12 that Lot is now living in Sodom.

The two likely possibilities are:

i. Either Lot later on relocated to live inside the city of Sodom. Or
ii. The city expanded to cover the territories around it, including Lots estate.

Eitherway, Lot and Sodom would have been destroyed together.

We sometimes think ourselves very far from sin only to later realize we are closer than we should. We entertain people who have sold themselves out to sin until we end up becoming part of their sinful behaviour.

Child of God, becareful therefore, where you pitch your camp. Decide from today the kind of places you will go, the kind of programs you will watch on T.V. and the people you choose as close friends.

We should not be deceived, bad company certainly corrupts good manners. Begin to Pray Now! Ask for the grace to avoid sin and its territories.
