Topic: Will You Let Him In?
Text: John 5: 6
When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” Amen
What a strange question to ask a man who has been ill for such a long time! But don’t be misled! The Savior never expresses such weird sense of humour with this degree of sarcasm. He wanted to know if the man desires healing and permits by his own will, that the Lord helps him.
You have no idea how people love their misery because of the attention and sympathy it brings them. Others do nothing about their situation because the feel helples. Even where they can access solution, they wouldn’t because a part of them gives them a false impression that they can’t. There’s yet a third category who have felt too disappointed by attempts to help that proved futile. They don’t need anyone’s help anymore.
The sad reality however is that very situations they condone rather ruin their lives everyday and only make them worse.
The Savoir having learnt the man had been in that condition a long time wanted to know if he desired healing. If he did, it will be a proof of faith and that would be more than enough to turn his life around.
You see, Jesus never imposes His will on anyone; it is against spiritual law. What He does is to admonish, convict, encourage, reason with you and knock. He says in Revelations 3: 20: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
He never breaks in. One day He taught against the Pharisees and said, “Very truly I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” (John 10: 1-4).
Why do you hesitate to invite the Lord Jesus into your life and circumstance even when you know He knocks day and night? Why do you accuse Him of negligence when you were never His by your own will, choice and action?
He is such the perfect Gentleman who never breaks in. He says of Himself, “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. (John 10: 14).
Behold! He knocks on the door of your heart again. Do you need a Savoir for your soul’s salvation from sin and the grave? Do you want to be set free from all of the shackles that hold you bound? Do you want to get well? Then LET THE MASTER IN RIGHT NOW. Let Him fix that heart which is weary and almost broken. There’s no other name given by which we can be saved. Be nice and and ask Him in! HE COMES ONLY TO DO YOU GOOD.
