Topic: When Your Life Is Half Gone, How Much More Will Stay With You?
Text: Jeremiah 17: 11
11 Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay are those who gain riches by unjust means. When their lives are half gone, their riches will desert them, and in the end they will prove to be fools. Amen
All eggs look similar except for the differences in size and weight. The lazy partridge who refused to lay her own eggs may incubate the eggs of a hen till they hatch. She may even deceive that, all the chicks are hers. Although one may have doubts, the seeming attachment between the partridge and the chicks diffuses all arguments that these day-old chicks are not partridges.
However, time will expose the trickery of the partridge when all the chicks she hatched begin to look and behave like cocks and hens rather than her kind. What’s worse is when they, after a short while, desert her to the lonely state she used to be in. This will be the fate of all who gain riches by unjust means.
You see, society respects the wealthy and affluent regardless of how they acquired their numerous resources. Once you possess certain material things that most of your peers desire to have, you attain the status of a “very important person” and you are accorded the corresponding honour everywhere you go.
The danger, however, is that ill-acquired wealth has wings and always flies off as easily as it flew in. By the time your life is half gone, this wealth would have deserted you and proven how foolish you have been holding on too hard to it.
On the other hand, wealth that stems from the fear of God and genuine hardwork always stands the test of time. In fact, it grows and multiplies even as our years increase. It makes life comfortable even when age seeks to make it miserable.
Therefore refuse to join your colleagues in cutting corners in the office to make a few more “notes”. Refuse to be dishonest in all your dealings. No more tricks, lies, fraud, exaggerations, flattery, corruptions and bribes.
Remind all believers to desist from the love of money; it is the root of all evil (1 Tim 6: 10). Also, tell the Pastor, Politician and Civil Servant to be good stewards not looters.
Warn the unemployed, Deserted, Destitute and Desperate to watch what they do and say to get wealth; those people forget very easily that we will all account to God one day.
Finally, teach your children to understand that it is the blessings of the Lord that maketh rich; and He adds no sorrow to it (Prov 10:22).
Begin to pray now. Ask for the grace be content and godly. These two at work in the life of a believer is great gain (1 Tim 6:6).
